In Saint Albans, Christchurch, the Reformed Church of Christchurch set out to replace a church complex that was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake. The aim was to provide a modern, well-scaled facility that could continue serving its congregation while fitting comfortably within its residential setting.
BSM Group Architects led the design of a new church complex that reduced the overall bulk of the previous building, improved setbacks, and enhanced the streetscape through careful landscaping. The project provides a flexible auditorium and supporting spaces, along with well-planned parking and access.
The completed design delivers a practical and welcoming place for worship and community activity, while improving amenity and long-term performance for both the congregation and the neighbourhood.
